Arnold Mariashin, an artist with a rich background in film directing and photography, developed a deep love for photography at the tender age of eight. After completing his studies at the prestigious State University of Arts and Culture in St. Petersburg, Mariashin embarked on a fruitful career in various media outlets, including TV, cinematography, magazines, and newspapers. However, he ultimately decided to return to analog photography, which allowed him to delve deeper into his creative vision and embark on numerous successful solo projects.
Mariashin's approach to photography is revolutionary in its attempt to blur the line between art and documentary. He believes that photographs are often regarded as mere formal confirmations of existence, neglecting their primary purpose as artistic images. To counter this tendency, Mariashin has sought to return to the roots of fine arts, rethinking contemporary trends and experimenting with original techniques.
Mariashin argues that technology often determines the perception of images, leaving little room for audience interpretation or imagination. The prevalence of digital imaging has led to a focus on accuracy and technical perfection, but at the expense of artistic expression. In contrast, hand-colored photographs offer a decisive and imagined moment, presenting a blend of reality and fantasy that invites the viewer to engage with the image on a deeper level.
Mariashin's artistic vision has been recognized by a wide range of exhibitions in Europe and the United States. His works have also been included in the contemporary art collections of the State Russian Museum and private collections worldwide. Through his unique approach to photography, Mariashin challenges conventional notions of what constitutes an artistic image and invites viewers to embrace the beauty and complexity of the world around us.
